Aspirations

Hi, I am a special education professional who works with the truly ‘left behind’ children – those who are incarcerated at a juvenile detention center.  These children come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.  Some are undiagnosed, others qualify for services via an IEP – all are, in my opinion, special education candidates due to their behavioral ineptitudes.

I have just recently earned my Masters degree in Special Education: ED/SLD from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.  I have been teaching math and science to this group of children since late summer of 2006.

The grade levels I serve in this capacity range from 5th grade through 12th grade.  I also assist students in their quest for GED* certification, and provide a structured environment for those who have earned their diplomas or certifications but have not reached the magical age of 18. (At 18, they become adults and are transferred to the Adult Detention Center).
