Thing #6 – Mashups and 3rd Party Sites

June 18, 2009

What an interesting ‘thing’ to learn about – just think of all the classroom applications and possibilities that can be investigated using these hybrid apps that take features from one application and combines them with (mashes it) another application.  The possibilities are limited only by your imagination (or your student’s imaginations)!

I especially liked the API – application programming interface – where Flickr services could be investigated and, if you so desire, additional apps could be invented.

The trading card maker at Big Huge Labs was an interesting idea – would be a great way for students to interact visually and digitally with science concepts or math formulas.  The definitive list for all things related to these API services can be found at this URL.
While I was engaged in Thing #6, I also encountered Wordles – a toy for creating ‘word clouds’ from text that you provide. I tried it out on this blog’s first 4 days of entries – pretty cool effect! Check it out yourself!
