Thing #5 Flickr photo-sharing

A very fun Web 2.o application for digital photo- and movie-sharing and posting/responding to discussion threads in an online environment.  You must create an account (with your previously created yahoo sign-in) and choose a screen name.  If you so desire, you may create a ‘group’ to invite your students and other contacts to join. (I did it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/a-bclassroom/ and the group address:  http://www.flickr.com/groups/pi-day/ .

There are about 150 common tags – one or two word descriptors to help search engines and other interested parties find your group.

The creative commons site was also very interesting – 6 levels of photo-sharing security set up

  1. To increase access to publicly-held photography collections, and
  2. To provide a way for the general public to contribute information and knowledge. (Then watch what happens when they do!) The above picture was uploaded from the Flickr website – at one point, our backyard kinda-sorta looked like this…
